Jabiru is taking another big step towards transitioning into a major tourism hub with $10 million set aside to carry out upgrades and repairs to its electricity network over the next two years.
The upgrades are funded through the NT Government’s $135.5 million investment in Jabiru, which will be pivotal in establishing the township as a vibrant cultural centre in the heart of Kakadu and the West Arnhem Region.
The upgrades will ensure Jabiru’s electricity network is ready to receive new generation supplied by a hybrid power station, with a renewable energy component of at least 50 per cent. The procurement process for the hybrid power station will be finalised in the New Year, with the plant to be up and running by the end of 2021.
The NT Government has also committed to upgrading other crucial infrastructure including a new education precinct, a multi-use health clinic, the NBN rollout, mobile connectivity, and a government services hub.
Jabiru Kabolkmakmen Ltd is excited to see the investment and subsequent works underway and looks forward to hearing more in the new year.
