Chief Minister announces Jabiru power station contract
The Chief Minister, Michael Gunner, has announced that the construction contract of Jabiru’s new hybrid power station has been awarded to Brisbane based energy company EDL (Energy Developments Ltd).
With construction due to begin in April, the hybrid diesel and solar power station will be a vital part of Jabiru’s transition from a mining-based economy to an indigenous led tourism and government services hub.
The new Jabiru Health Centre moving forward with design tender release
Jabiru and West Arnhem residents were pleased to hear that the NT Government has released the design tender for the new Jabiru Health Centre.
Once operational, the new Health Centre will provide residents and visitors with greater access to medical support in a centralised location.
Electricity network upgrades a win for Jabiru
Jabiru is taking another big step towards transitioning into a major tourism hub with $10 million set aside to carry out upgrades and repairs to its electricity network over the next two years.
The upgrades are funded through the NT Government’s $135.5 million investment in Jabiru, which will be pivotal in establishing the township as a vibrant cultural centre in the heart of Kakadu and the West Arnhem Region.
A proposal for a new Housing Entity in Jabiru
Jabiru Kabolkmakmen is working hard to explore a number of proposals to best support the town through the transition from a mining-based economy to a tourism and government services hub. We recognise that equitable access to private rental housing is critical to the economic future of the town.
One of the proposals Jabiru Kabolkmakmen is exploring is the establishment of a new housing entity within Jabiru Kabolkmakmen.
